You'll know by now that Steve and I never tire of marvelling about the range and quality of independent Kent businesses. The "Garden of England" is of course well known for its wonderful farms and abundance of coastline and associated food production... As proper foodies ourselves, we feel so very lucky to have a wealth of wonderful food producers and food related businesses in our county! But it doesn't stop there. We believe that there's a unique quality of businesses in Kent - hard to define (maybe you can?) but something we can all be proud of. Across every sector, there are examples of businesses that deliver consistently high quality services and products, that perhaps you'd expect from the Big Smoke? Maybe it's time for everyone to accept that Kent businesses really are that good because
they're Kent businesses, and not despite being Kentish?!
You may remember that on New Year's Day 2015, we announced our very own New Year's Honours list of the Kent businesses who we felt epitomised the philosophy of Keep it in Kent. It was our way of showing a handful of businesses just how much they're appreciated: not just for the work and the contributions they make to the economy and the people of Kent, but also for their collective contribution to the Kent Business Sector as a whole. It was a tough selection to make, but we came up with a list of very different businesses, all outstanding in their own fields - which we have since been getting to know and champion during the year.
So we've decided to go ahead and select a new group of businesses for our 2016 New Year's Honours List. This time, because we have built up a wonderful following of supporters, we're asking YOU to make the nominations! We can't possibly know every outstanding business in Kent, so we're turning to you to let us know which local businesses you are most proud of. Do they offer outstanding quality? Do they make a contribution to the local economy/community that goes above and beyond their own success? Are they helping to give Kent Businesses a good name, or giving the (inter)national chains a run for their money? We'd love to know!
You can nominate any Kent business, so long as it fits the basic KiiK criteria:
So as long as the Directors and/or key Shareholders are Kent residents, AND
a) They prioritise sourcing locally produced goods and using local services wherever possible/appropriate
b) They provide employment opportunities for residents in Kent
c) Their goods and services benefit fellow Kent residents and/or businesses
It doesn't matter what sector they're in, how long they've been in business, or how big they are...
Here's a reminder of the businesses that we continue to honour in 2015:
